Colorado is one of the hardest climates in the country on stucco. Three forces work against it every year:
When a painter applies standard exterior latex to stucco, the paint seals the surface from the outside but traps moisture vapor on the inside. The wall can't breathe. Eventually the coating blisters, the stucco crumbles, and water finds its way to the wood framing behind it.
The fix is using the right product, applied the right way, with prep that doesn't cut corners.
Every HoneyBrush stucco project uses a Sherwin-Williams Loxon® coating system applied in two full coats, over a Loxon primer, back-rolled where needed for full penetration. At full label strength — never thinned to stretch material. Depending on your home's condition, we'll recommend one of two systems:
Loxon® XP — The Heavy-Duty Crack-Bridging System
Best for older stucco with hairline cracks, freeze-thaw damage, or homes in high-exposure locations.
Loxon® Self-Cleaning — The Stay-Looking-New System
Best for newer stucco in good condition, or homeowners who want minimum maintenance.
Either way, we apply two full coats over a Sherwin-Williams Loxon primer. Two coats at full strength is what the manufacturer specifies for full warranty performance
Most stucco coating jobs fail because the painter coated over problems instead of fixing them. We don't.
Every HoneyBrush stucco project includes structural repair before any coating touches the wall:
Cracks routed out, cleaned, and patched — Hairline and structural cracks are widened slightly to allow proper sealant penetration, cleaned of all debris and loose material, and filled with elastomeric sealant that flexes with temperature swings. No shortcuts.
Damaged stucco sections replaced or rebuilt — Sections of stucco that are broken, missing, or structurally compromised are cut back to solid material, rebuilt with the appropriate stucco compound, and finished to match the existing texture. This is skilled work and it's done before any coating.
Flashing inspected and reflashed — Flashing around windows, doors, roof transitions, and other penetrations is inspected for gaps, rust, or separation. Where needed, flashing is removed and reinstalled, or sealed with premium long-life caulk. This is where water damage starts.
Failed caulking stripped and replaced — All old, dried-out caulk around windows, doors, trim, and penetrations is completely removed and replaced with premium 30 or 60-year Sherwin-Williams sealants that remain flexible decade after decade.
Efflorescence chemically cleaned, not painted over — Chalky white deposits that indicate moisture movement are chemically cleaned away. Painting over efflorescence traps moisture and guarantees failure.
Loose stucco re-secured — Any stucco that's come loose from the underlying substrate is re-secured, re-fastened, and allowed to cure before coating begins.
Only then do we coat. That's why our stucco work lasts 10-15 years instead of failing in 5.
Every HoneyBrush stucco project includes a complimentary color consultation. Where helpful, we'll apply test patches of your top color choices on your home so you can see how each option looks in real Colorado light before we commit.

Many of our stucco projects are part of a full exterior refresh. We coordinate stucco coating, siding painting, trim work, and deck or fence staining as a single project — same crew, same standards, one timeline.

A new stucco coating is the best way to modernize an outdated home. For 2026, homeowners are choosing:
We help you select HOA-approved colors that fit your home and your community.
We apply a Sherwin-Williams Loxon® coating system on every stucco project — two full coats over a Loxon primer, applied at full label strength. Depending on your home's condition, we use either Loxon XP (a high-build elastomeric coating for crack-bridging and waterproofing) or Loxon Self-Cleaning (a hydrophobic acrylic that sheds dirt and water for a stay-clean finish). Your estimator will recommend the right system after assessing your home.
Yes — and the difference matters. "Painting" usually means applying standard exterior latex paint, which seals stucco from the outside and traps moisture inside. "Coating" means applying a masonry-specific product like Loxon that waterproofs while still letting the wall breathe. We never apply standard latex to stucco.
Both. Every HoneyBrush stucco project includes crack inspection, routing, and patching as part of our standard 18-step prep — even if you originally came to us for a color change. If your stucco has hairline or spiderweb cracks, they get fixed before we coat.
Yes. Loxon coatings can be tinted to a wide range of Sherwin-Williams colors. We provide HOA-ready color samples and full spec sheets for board approval. Every project includes a complimentary color consultation with on-site test spots where helpful.
Most stucco prep takes several days depending on home size and the condition of the existing surface. We don't rush prep — it's the difference between a paint job that lasts and one that fails early.
No. Every HoneyBrush stucco project is staffed by our in-house, trained, licensed, and insured crews.
No. Loxon coatings are applied at full label strength — two full coats over the right primer. Thinning Loxon would compromise its waterproofing performance and void the manufacturer warranty.
In almost every case, repair and recoating is the right answer. Full stucco replacement is dramatically more expensive than restoration. As long as the underlying structure is sound, a professional Loxon application addresses cracks and moisture issues for a fraction of replacement cost.
Yes. We serve the entire Front Range and have completed stucco projects throughout Colorado Springs, Monument, Tri-Lakes, and Castle Rock — including homes in HOA communities where we provide full color and product documentation.
We can't submit the application for you, but we provide a complete HOA approval package — exact Sherwin-Williams color codes, Loxon product spec sheets, and application details — so your board can approve quickly.
Loxon XP is a high-build elastomeric coating — heavy-duty choice for crack-bridging and waterproofing on older or damaged stucco. Loxon Self-Cleaning has a hydrophobic surface that sheds dirt and water for low-maintenance performance — better for newer stucco in good condition. Your estimator will walk you through both options during your free assessment.
