Most exterior paint jobs in Colorado fail for the same reason: the painter painted over problems. Issues such as loose siding, rotted trim, failed caulking, damaged flashing, and open stucco cracks need attention prior to painting. Painting over these doesn't make them go away — it just hides them until the paint fails, usually within two or three Colorado winters.
We do this differently. Every HoneyBrush exterior project starts with a structural inspection of every elevation, and we fix the underlying problems before any coating touches your home:
Damaged siding and trim — Identified, replaced, and color-matched. We don't paint over rotted wood or damaged boards. We remove them and install new material that will take paint properly and last.
Rotted wood — Removed and replaced before any priming. Rotted trim, fascia, or siding sections are completely cut out and new material installed. This is the work that separates a job that lasts from one that fails.
Loose siding panels — Physically refastened. We tighten every loose board, reinstall missing fasteners, and verify all siding is secure before prep begins.
Popped nails and screws — Driven home and sealed. Even small fastener pops create entry points for water. We address every one.
Failed flashing — Reflashed or sealed where water entry points exist. Flashing around windows, doors, roof transitions, and other penetrations is inspected and either replaced or sealed with premium long-life caulk. This is where most water damage originates.
Open stucco cracks — Routed out and patched with elastomeric sealant. Hairline cracks are widened slightly for proper sealant penetration, cleaned of debris, and sealed with premium caulk that flexes with Colorado's temperature swings.
Failed caulking — Stripped out and replaced with premium 30 or 60-year Sherwin-Williams sealants. Old, dried-out caulk is completely removed and replaced with fresh product that will remain flexible for a decade or longer.
Loose fasteners and minor hardware issues — Re-secured or replaced. Loose handrails, light fixtures, or other exterior hardware are tightened or reinforced before painting begins.
Only then do we prime and paint with two full coats at full strength — never thinned.
Not every exterior surface is the same — and not every surface should be treated the same. Here's how we approach each:
Siding (wood, fiber cement, lap)
Standard exterior systems: two coats of Sherwin-Williams Latitude, Duration, or Emerald over the appropriate primer. Damaged or rotted boards are replaced before paint. Loose siding is refastened. Popped nails are driven home.
Stucco
Stucco needs a masonry-specific coating — not standard exterior paint. We apply a Sherwin-Williams Loxon® system (either Loxon XP for crack-bridging or Loxon Self-Cleaning for stay-clean performance), two coats over Loxon primer. Standard latex paint traps moisture in stucco and causes blistering and rot — we never apply it to stucco. Learn more about our stucco system →
Brick and masonry
Painted brick or masonry features get the appropriate masonry coating system — Loxon for full coverage, or specialized masonry sealers for natural brick and stone features.
Exterior trim, fascia, soffits, and eaves
Premium Sherwin-Williams trim systems matched to your siding paint, with premium long-life caulking and weather sealing as part of our 18-step prep. Damaged trim is replaced before painting.
Doors, garage doors, and shutters
Smooth, professional-grade door finishes that hold up to direct sun and weather exposure. Your garage door is the largest painted surface on the front of your home — and one of the highest-impact upgrades you can refinish. Learn more about exterior and garage door painting →
Decks and fences
Wood needs penetrating stain, not paint — and the prep is different. We strip, sand, repair, and apply two coats of premium stain (transparent, semi-transparent, or solid). Learn more about deck and fence staining →
The point: we use the right product for each surface, not one-size-fits-all paint. That's why our work outlasts contractors who put exterior latex on everything.

No. Every HoneyBrush project is staffed by our in-house, trained and insured crews. Many painting companies in Colorado operate as lead-generation businesses and shop the actual work out to whichever crew is cheapest. We don't.
No. We apply Sherwin-Williams premium coatings at full label strength — two full coats on every project. Cutting paint with water or solvent is a common cost-cutting trick that reduces film thickness, undermines manufacturer warranties, and causes premature failure.
Yes. Repair before paint is part of every HoneyBrush project. We inspect every elevation, replace rotted wood and damaged boards, refasten loose siding, drive home popped nails, reflash or seal water entry points, and patch failed stucco cracks before any priming or coating begins.
Yes. Every project includes a complimentary color consultation, and where helpful, we'll apply small test spots on your home so you can see your top color choices in real conditions before committing.
With proper prep and premium Sherwin-Williams two-coat systems applied at full strength, a quality exterior paint job significantly outlasts standard single-coat applications. Specific lifespan varies by exposure, elevation, and home condition.
Our 2-year workmanship warranty is standard on every exterior project using Sherwin-Williams Latitude or Duration. Our 5-Year Workmanship Warranty applies to every project using the Sherwin-Williams Emerald system. Choosing Emerald is what unlocks the extended warranty. All products are also backed by Sherwin-Williams' own manufacturer product warranties.
Yes. HoneyBrush Painting is fully licensed and insured to operate in Colorado. Documentation is provided as part of every HOA approval package and is available on request.
We can't submit the application for you, but we provide a complete HOA approval package — exact Sherwin-Williams color codes, product spec sheets, and application details — so your board can approve quickly. We're familiar with the approval workflows in Kings Deer, Castle Pines, Flying Horse, The Meadows, and Woodmoor.
Late April through October is the optimal exterior painting window in the Front Range. Sherwin-Williams Latitude can be applied in temperatures as low as 35°F, which extends the season.
No. We charge zero upfront. You don't pay until the job is complete and you're 100% satisfied with the result.
Two full coats on every project, every product, every time — applied at full strength, never thinned. Two coats is what Sherwin-Williams specifies for full warranty performance.
